Students - Who We Are...

The medical students who enroll in the SMHS are as diverse as the experiences and specialties offered. The 2007 entering medical school class ranged in age from 20 to 49, with an average age of 24. In stark contrast to those early days in 1884, last year's class was 61% female. Included in this mix are students matriculating directly following undergraduate study, mid-career professionals, and individuals looking to make a career change.

“As a distinctly non-traditional student (my oldest child is the same age as many of my classmates), I wondered whether I would fit in, and how I would share the trials of medical school with my classmates. I needn't have worried: GWU is a great place where people of many different backgrounds are encouraged to work together and look out for one another. I feel well-prepared and confident about my future role as a physician”
