The GW Medical Center has a long-standing tradition in research.
With approximately 400 research projects underway, the Medical Center
is dedicated to improving the health and well being of our local
and global communities. To this end, our research expands the frontiers
of science and knowledge, opening new worlds of medical possibilities.
Several exciting areas of research are housed in The Cancer Institute
and the GW Institute for Spirituality and Health. In addition, students
can participate in the Gill Fellowship Program, which awards medical
students a summer stipend for conducting research with faculty members.

I feel that this school promotes
a comfortable atmosphere from the "open door" policy of the
deans and faculty to the abundant amount of opportunities
to get involved in research, clinical, and organizational
activities. Last semester I had the chance to work with the
chair of Urology and the senior resident to do research in
which we have submitted two papers. This semester I am continuing
my research at Children's National Medical Center in Pediatrics,
Urology and also working on another research project in the
Department of Surgery. For these reasons and many others,
I now understand why GW has such a prestigious reputation
in producing excellent clinicians. We learn from the best!"
