B.A. / M.D.

A joint program of The George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the seven year BA/MD program is designed for the high school senior who exhibits academic excellence, leadership in activities, community service and healthcare experiences, and has confirmed the goal to become a physician.

  • Students in this program have the support of an undergraduate BA/MD advisor, the Assistant Dean of Admissions for the School of Medicine, and student mentors in the BA/MD program.
  • Freshmen have the opportunity to live together in the same dormitory.
  • There are seminars and experiences in healthcare. A service project is required yearly.
  • Students have the opportunity to arrange their program of study to travel abroad.
  • Students in the undergraduate portion must meet all university requirements, including the general curriculum requirements (GCRs).
  • Students will devise a 3 year academic experience that is appropriate for them with the support of the BA/MD advisor and their major advisor.
  • Students must to complete all required undergraduate work including all general curriculum requirements, requirements for the major and receive the BA degree the third year of the program, before progression to the MD curriculum.

A review committee makes the final recommendation concerning promotion to the MD curriculum at the end of the third year. No MCATs are required to progress to the MD program. Tuition for this program is set for the seven years. Please review this web site for further information on the MD program.
