he Surgical Pathology Fellowship Program at GWU offers comprehensive
training in diagnostic surgical pathology in the setting of a busy
academic hospital. The case material is varied and includes representative
specimens from essentially all organ systems. The fellow functions
as a junior attending pathologist, with appropriate supervision
and instruction by the senior faculty, and assumes sign-out responsibility
for a large number of surgical cases.
Two months of the fellowship year are devoted to elective experience,
during which time specialized interests may be pursued either at
GWU or other institutions. The fellow participates in many intra-
and interdepartmental conferences, and is also involved in quality
assurance, teaching, intraoperative consultation, and research activities.
The GWU Medical Center is located on the George Washington University
campus in an attractive residential area of Washington, DC. The
new, state-of-the-art University Hospital is a few steps from the
Foggy Bottom Metrorail station and minutes by foot from the Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts and the Georgetown shopping and entertainment
district.
