Thank you for your interest in the Pathology Residency Program
at the George Washington University Medical Center. We offer positions
through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and accept
applications for PGY1 and more advanced positions.
Our program utilizes the American Association of Medical Colleges
(AAMC)-sponsored Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
to process and review candidates' applications. You may contact
the AAMC directly through their website at www.aamc.org/eras
for more information. Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited
medical school in the U.S. or Canada, or hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
A letter from the dean of your medical school, three (3) letters
of recommendation, an official medical school transcript, a personal
statement, a curriculum vitae, and passing scores on Steps I and
II of the USMLE examinations are required and should be submitted
through ERAS. A photograph may also be submitted through ERAS, but
this is optional. The George Washington University Medical Center
currently sponsors only J1 visas for international medical graduates.
All information that you wish to be reviewed as part of your application
must be submitted through ERAS. If the Pathology Program office
at GWUMC needs supplemental material, we will contact you directly.
The AAMC provides the opportunity for you to make changes in your
ERAS materials when necessary. You may make a change at any time
during the process. Any new information you submit to ERAS overwrites
the material previously submitted.
When all application materials have been received, selected individuals
will be invited for a personal interview. Consideration for interview
is based on a variety of factors; however, the program has no minimum
USMLE score or limitation regarding time since graduation from medical
school. During the interview, the applicant will have the opportunity
to meet with several faculty members, tour the department and hospitals,
and discuss the training program with one or more of our pathology
residents.
Applications will be accepted beginning on September 1, when the
ERAS post office opens for the current recruiting season. Applicants
are strongly encouraged to submit their application to our residency
program by no later than December 1. We will accept late applications
through the end of December; however, no applications will be accepted
after December 31. The core period for interviewing selected candidates
to our program is from October 1 until mid-December. We can arrange
interviews in late December or during January, but only under special
circumstances. Please contact us if you have questions regarding
our application deadline or the timing of interviews
We appreciate your interest in the Pathology Residency Program
at the George Washington University Medical Center and wish you
well in your search for a position.
