The Cytopathology Fellowship Program at GWU offers comprehensive
training in all aspects of cytopathology, with special emphasis
on fine needle aspiration. Approximately half of all fine needle
aspiration procedures done in the Medical Center are performed by
the pathologists in our Pathology Department-based FNA Clinic. The
use of ThinPrep processing technology, availability of extensive
on-site ancillary techniques, and the integration of surgical pathology
with cytopathology are other highlights of the program. Our program
is accredited by the ACGME and four cytopathology board-certified
faculty members cover the service.
Two months of the fellowship year are devoted to elective experience,
during which time specialized interests may be pursued either at
GWU or other institutions. We also offer one month of the fellowship
year at the National Institute of Health (NIH). The fellows participate
in many intra-and interdepartmental conferences, and are involved
in quality assurance, teaching, intraoperative consultation, and
research activities.
The GWU Medical Center is located on the George Washington University
campus in an attractive residential area of Washington, DC. The
new, state-of-the-art University Hospital is a few steps from the
Foggy Bottom Metrorail station and minutes by foot from the Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts and the Georgetown shopping and entertainment
district.
