We are pleased to welcome you to our website
and have the opportunity to introduce you to the Department of Pathology
at the George Washington University Medical Center.
The GWU Department of Pathology is committed to excellence in clinical
practice, education, and research. Ou r
training programs in anatomic and clinical pathology are fully integrated,
emphasizing the unified nature of the information interpreted by
the pathologist. One month you may be cutting frozen sections to
assess margin status on a prostatectomy specimen and the next month
you could be consulted on a transfusion reaction while on the blood
bank service. Pathology residents are an integral part of the health
care team, accepting increasing responsibility as their experience
expands. From performing fine needle aspirations in FNA clinic,
to participating in the teaching of medical students in the second-year
pathology course, to performing autopsies at the D.C. Medical Examiner's
Office, a GW pathology resident will be well-prepared to enter into
the practice of pathology, whether it be in an academic or community
setting.
GWU pathology residents work hard but we also like to have fun.
The nation's capital is a beautiful, vibrant, a nd
diverse city that offers a multitude of cultural, educational, and
social opportunities. There are many museums, restaurants, and parks
to explore and enjoy as well as some of the best shopping and dining
available in the country.
Thank you for your interest in the GW Department of Pathology.
If you have any questions about our department feel free to e-mail

Sincerely,
Samer Nassif, M.D.
