THE WASHINGTON, D.C. AREA
GERIATRIC EDUCATION CENTER CONSORTIUM

"Collaboration for Excellence in Geriatric Education"

The Washington, D.C Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium (WAGECC) is a collaboration of institutions concerned with improving the health of older persons living in the greater Washington, D.C. region through education of health professionals, caregivers and others who provide services to older adults. The WAGECC service area includes Washington D.C., the State of Maryland, and Northern Virginia and embraces both urban and rural settings where more than one million older adults reside. The population of older persons in this region is rapidly growing and culturally and ethnically diverse.

WAGECC strives to provide high quality educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills of current and future health educators and professionals, caregivers, clergy and others in public service occupations. Through surveys, evaluations, and focus groups, WAGECC identifies the educational needs of its constituents and develops educational programs and clinical learning opportunities to meet these needs. By improving the quality of service delivery, education, and awareness, WAGECC positively impacts the health and well-being of older persons, especially those who are underserved. Through its expansive network of academic and community-based organizations and institutions that serve older persons, WAGECC participates in research activities, the dissemination of research results, and policy-making for eldercare issues.
