Frequently Asked Questions

Can students from Maryland or Virginia apply?
No. This program is focused solely on graduating high school seniors from a DC public or charter high school. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any similar types of programs offered to students who live in Virginia and Maryland.

How do I receive the $1,000.00 stipend and $4,827.50 scholarship towards college?
The stipend and scholarship can be obtained upon successful completion of DC HAPP.

How many times can I be absent from the summer program and/or orientation and still complete the program successfully?
Zero! Scholars must attend the mandatory orientation on June 19th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm with your parent(s) or guardian(s) AND be in attendance every Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm during the program (July 6th – July 30th) in order to successfully complete DC HAPP.

Will lunch be provided by DC HAPP?
No. Scholars are expected to bring their own lunch each day or could purchase lunch on GW’s campus.

How will I travel to or from GW’s campus during the program?
Metro SMARTRIP cards will be provided to each scholar to ensure they have transportation to and from GW’s campus.
