What are the benefits of participating in DC HAPP?

DC HAPP is a new program in DC designed for scholars, like you, who have a strong interest in careers in the health sciences. Beginning college can be exciting, scary, and has the potential to be one of the best experiences of your life. Feeling prepared and having an edge on important skills needed to succeed in your first year and beyond will help to enhance that experience. Not only will you be equipped with these skills, you (along with four others) will share a graduate mentor from GW SMHS who will assist you in cultivating these skills during the program and will be available for continuous contact throughout your undergraduate program career [check out mentor bios at this link]! We hope that the relationship you establish with your mentor will be beneficial to you throughout your college experience, as well as inspire you to, one day, participate in a program where you will mentor, tutor, or teach so that the cycle continues.

Ever wonder if you have what it takes to be in the health sciences or the types of people with whom you might work or the types of cases you might see? Through DC HAPP, you will experience a variety of careers in health sciences, engage in laboratory programs using Problem Oriented Case-based Learning, participate in weekly field trips, and learn more about the programs offered here at GW Medical Center. To reward you for your excellent work throughout the summer, each student will receive a $1000.00 stipend, payable to the individual, as well as the opportunity to obtain a scholarship of $4,827.50, dispersed directly to the college you will be attending during the 2010-2011 academic year. To recap, see the many benefits of participating in DC HAPP this summer!
