The Clinical Core is responsible for the provision of support and services to the many clinical investigators and trainees at the institutions participating in the DC D-CFAR.
The institutions collaborating in the DC D-CFAR include both academic medical centers and community providers in the Washington area who together cared for more than 9,000 HIV-infected persons in 2008. The Clinical Core provides access to a clinical research program with a large and demographically varied HIV-infected patient population. Individuals that access care at these DC D-CFAR institutions range in age from newborns through the elderly, with large numbers of minority and foreign-born populations and a wide variety of HIV risk factors.
Promote multidisciplinary clinical and translational HIV/AIDS research at the seven DC D-CFAR collaborating clinical sites.
Identify potential Clinical Core Mentees from clinical trainees and junior investigators interested in HIV research, with emphasis on minorities, women, and young investigators.
