CME Activity Faculty Honoraria
BACKGROUND: It should be recognized that full-time GW faculty and outside guest faculty have different interests in participating in GW-sponsored CME activities. Economics play an important role in GW's ability to recruit the most qualified faculty to participate as speakers in our CME activities. Therefore GW's policy with regard to honoraria must remain competitive with the marketplace, while recognizing the inherent difference between full-time GW faculty and outside guest faculty, and without threatening the financial viability of the activities themselves. Therefore, suggested honoraria levels will be subject to annual review by the Medical Center Executive Committee. POLICY: Guest Faculty Honoraria for guest faculty participating in both didactic and training CME activities may be awarded based on the scale on Schedule A. While honoraria are based on length of presentation, they also are intended as compensation for preparation of instructional materials (i.e. syllabi, slides, etc.) and actual instruction time. Honoraria fees may be prorated for instruction time which exceeds or falls short of the parameters described. To enable a program chair to recruit the participation of a highly sought expert, the honoraria formula on Schedule A may be exceeded provided the expense is included in the activity budget and with the permission of the sponsoring Department Chair, entity head and the Office of CEHP. POLICY: Full-Time GW Faculty The policy stated for "Guest Faculty" shall apply to full-time GW faculty but may only be paid when when included in the approved budget, unless otherwise authorized by the Department Chair, entity head and the Office of CEHP. POLICY: GW Voluntary Faculty It will be left to the discretion of the program director, with the department chair's approval, whether the policy for Full-Time GW Faculty or Guest Faculty will apply to GW Voluntary Faculty. Whichever policy is adopted for a specific activity, the expense must be included in the approved budget. |
