BACKGROUND:

The Office of CEHP provides its own financial support through management fees earned from contracted CME and meeting management services provided to external health care organizations as well as from staff hours invested in GW CME activities. To recover indirect costs of the Office of CEHP, users of GW's accredited status as a CME provider shall contribute to the financial support of the office.

POLICY:

The following Medical Center assessment policy compensates the Medical Center for its financial support of the Office of CEHP; rewards clinical departments, divisions and faculty for developing profitable CME activities; and minimizes any financial burden on individual CME activity budgets.

The two-tiered Medical Center assessment on CME activity revenue shall include:

1. An assessment of 10 percent on CME activity registration fees and 10% on the first $100,000 of educational grants or exhibit fees from industry or other sources.
2. An additional assessment on net revenue, based on the following sliding scale: CME activities that net less than $10,000 shall be assessed at 7.5 percent of net; CME activities that net more than $10,000 shall be assessed at 10 percent of net.

After accounting for revenue, expenses and the assessments described above, residual net revenue then will be transferred to department and/or division accounts as directed by the sponsoring department chair and division director.
