Target Audience:

This activity is intended solely for use by students, faculty and staff affiliated with The George Washington University Medical Center.

Expected Educational Outcome:

This self-study CME activity provides an introduction to HIPAA and its impact on healthcare delivery. This course is intended as a primer and guide for basic knowledge of HIPAA principles; not as an instruction manual for specific implementation. Please seek further institutional-specific training on the policies and procedures for all HIPAA covered entities in which you provide care or access patient information for research.

Goal: To understand the patient privacy issues affected by HIPAA.

Instructional Media:

This activity is presented as self-study slides in an image format that requires either Netscape 6.0 (or higher) or Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher). Use the arrow buttons that appear above the slides to navigate through the activity.

After reading the slides and considering their content, the learner is expected to complete a post-test and evaluation. Completion of both the post-test and evaluation is required to earn CME credit.

Accreditation:

The George Washington University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. This CME activity was planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME Essentials and Standards.

CME Credit:

The George Washington University Medical Center designates this educational activity for up to 1 hour in category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Other health care providers who complete this activity will be awarded a certificate of completion.
