Master Of Science in
Molecular Biochemistry or Bioinformatics

Program Director : Jack Vanderhoek, Ph.D.

he M.S. program offers two tracks: Biochemistry or Bioinformatics. The Biochemistry track is designed to provide the student with a broad and practical laboratory-based experience whereas the Bioinformatics track will prepare the student in the state-of-art bioinformatics of basic and applied genomics and proteomics. Students in each track can opt for either a thesis option which requires the satisfactory completion of 30 graduate course credits or a non-thesis program which requires the satisfactory completion of 36 course credits. Several part-time assistantships are available for those following the thesis option. Late afternoon and evening classes as well as a flexible course load are convenient for working professionals.

Once students have completed the course work in the core section, they are required to pass a written Comprehensive Examination which is based primarily on didactic material taught in this section. Students following the thesis option are also required to present a seminar on their dissertation research. The degree is offered through the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. The program provides a deep understanding of biochemistry and bioinformatics, proteomics and genomics. The degree program prepares our graduates for competitive Ph.D. programs in biomedical sciences, advanced degrees in law, medicine or education or a career in industry.
