GW Africa Center and the Elliott School of International Affairs Host Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh from NDI
WASHINGTON (April 1, 2009) – Continuing their effort to bring together senior policy makers and university officials, The George Washington University (GWU) Africa Center for Health and Human Security and the Elliott School of International Affairs hosted Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh, senior associate and regional director for Central and West Africa at the National Democratic Institute, for a roundtable discussion with faculty, staff, students and other participants with an interest in Africa. In his presentation, Dr. Fomunyoh incorporated a wide range of issues—democracy, health, and security—and covered numerous countries in Africa— Senegal, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and others—to stimulate a thoughtful and interesting discussion. The Africa Center’s roundtables generally follow the Chatham House Rule in order to encourage presenters and participants to speak as individuals and to express views that may not be those of their organization.
Dr. Fomunyoh led discussions surrounding democracy, health, and security in Africa, President George W. Bush’s legacy in Africa , the current economic crisis and its impact on Africa, community engagement and empowerment, and the role of women in African government.
The Africa Center offers multiple opportunities for students, faculty, and donors to get involved with the Africa Center’s events and programs. For upcoming opportunities and events please contact the Africa Center by phone, 202-994-7462, or by e-mail: gwafricacenter@gwumc.edu.
