Off-Campus / Wireless Access
The Himmelfarb Library provides off-campus access to 80+ electronic databases, 200+ electronic textbooks, and 2,400+ electronic journals licensed by Himmelfarb Library, the Gelman Library, and/or the George Washington University for use by faculty, staff and students. If you wish to use these resources when you are away from campus, you must login via VPN (GWireless), ALADIN, or EZproxy.
Off-Campus Access
Instructions
- Turn off your internet browser's pop-up blocker or update settings to permit pop-ups from gwu.edu.
- Access the Himmelfarb Library website, then click on VPN (GWireless) in the 'My Accounts' area.
- Login to VPN (GWireless) with your GW NetID and password (the same login/password that you use for your GWMail or CMail).
- Click OK to allow the software to run or enter your computer's password.
- Access the Himmelfarb Library website again. You can now access databases, e-texts, and e-journals without any additional logins.

Alternate methods:
- ALADIN - web-based access which permits users to login with their last name and GWid (G#).
- EZproxy - web-based access for select groups only.
Please note: campus refers to the Foggy Bottom Campus, including the MFA building and the academic suite on the 6th floor of the GW Hospital. Anywhere else, including floors 1-5 of the GW Hospital are considered off-campus.
Wireless Access @ Himmelfarb
Wireless access to the GW computer network is available from Himmelfarb Library, Ross Hall Room 201, and from other areas on campus. Wireless access is available to GWU students, faculty, and staff only.
Instructions
- Make sure your computer is receiving and connected to the GWireless network signal. (Your computer may try to connect to other wireless networks).
- Turn off your internet browser's pop-up blocker or update settings to permit pop-ups from gwu.edu.
- Open your web browser, which should take you to a VPN (GWireless) webpage with links to the login page. If you are not taken to this welcome page, go to it directly.
- Login with your GW NetID (GWMail or CMail login/password).
- Click OK to allow the software to run or enter your computer's password. A network connect window will pop-up letting you know that you are logged in.
