QR Code Information

What is a QR Code?

QR Code, or Quick Response Code, is a two dimensional barcode containing data that can be read by a smartphone camera. Many smartphones have a QR code reader already installed or users can download a QR code reader app that will allow the phone's camera to act like a scanner and "read" the barcode. The encoded data could be in the following format: URL, phone, SMS message, text, Google Map/geo location, email, RSS feed, video or audio format.

History

QR Codes were developed in1994 in Japan by the Toyota subsidiary, Denso Wave, to track car parts for its factory. Today QR codes are used as a marketing tool to help promote products, websites and services targeting mobile phone users.
